Annual Beach Clean Up

Annual Old Airport Beach Park Clean UpWhen: Saturday March 3 2018 at 8 am
Where: Old Airport Beach Park
Help make a difference to the world you live in AND the Big Island. This event is spearheaded by an array of local groups and organizations, including Big Island Wave Riders Against Drugs. This cleanup is estimated to save the county more than $400,000. Volunteers will be given a t-shirt and they will sign up to clean up at a beach of their choice before heading out armed with gloves and trash bags. Last year volunteers took out an estimated 15 tons of trash from Old A! Come join us this year to make an impact!

12th Annual Avocado Festival

Where: Hale Halawai Park and Pavilion, 75-5760 Ali’i Drive from 10 am-5 pm
Do you love avocados!? Then this  free, zero-waste event is for you! The festival offers non-stop activities for attendees of all ages. Family fun includes an avocado recipe demonstration, food sampling, an avocado grafting demo, avocado tree sale, arts & crafts and healing arts. Great Waikoloa ‘Ukulele Festival

When: Saturday March 3
Where: Waikoloa Beach Resort
The festivities include a free workshop with celebrated teachers Roy and Kathy Sakuma at 10am, non-stop concerts, ‘ukulele giveaways, Hawaiian crafts and more. Traditional ‘ukulele masters, school groups, up-and-coming artists and top entertainers in the ‘ukulele world will be at the festival. St. Patrick’s Day Party and Concert

When: Saturday March 17th from 6:30-9:30 pm

Tickets:  $10 advance or $15 at the door

This event has limited seating and regularly sells out. Everyone loves to support the Hawaii Island Humane Society and pet lovers come out in force for this evening!

Merrie Monarch Festival

Where: Various locations in Hilo
When: April 1-April 7
The annual presentation of the Merrie Monarch Festival has led to a renaissance of the Hawaiian culture that is being passed on from generation to generation. VASH Hawai’i Island’s 4th Annual Cabaret

The Big Apple Comes to the Big Island for the Visitor’s Aloha Society of Hawaii fundraiser that features Hawai’i Island’s most anticipated performance of the year! 6th Annual Big Island Chocolate Festival

Where: Hapuna Prince Hotel
When: Friday-Saturday April 28th, 2018
Cost: $85 for the gala
The two-day chocolate extravaganza includes a cacao plantation tour at Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory, a college culinary competition and several public foodie and agriculture-themed seminars. Activities culminate 5-9 p.m. Saturday, April 28 with the indoor-outdoor festival gala – enjoy a host of sweet and savory culinary stations presented by top isle chefs, chocolatiers and confectioners. Fun chocolate activities include chocolate body painting. The Gala, which will be held from 5-9pm at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, featuring food booths, unlimited wine and beer pours, a silent auction, dancing and more. Presented by the Kona Cacao Association (KCA), event proceeds annually benefit a variety of local non-profits yet to be selected for 2018. Last year’s festival awarded $17.5K to four beneficiaries.
