You would also think of the beautiful artists community that is fostered and celebrated in the downtown with weekly events and holiday happenings. Then, you may also think of the cooler temperatures enjoyed at this 1,400 foot elevation and the abundance of tropical foliage along with acres and acres of coffee trees that provide its residents room to breathe and get away from the “city” life below. With ample rainfall, gardeners delight in growing a bevy of tropical fruits and vegetables.

Visit during the annual Holualoa Village Coffee & Art Stroll in November, when you can taste exotic Kona coffee blends while you shop for handcrafted goods and meet local farmers and artists. The most popular restaurant is Holuakoa Cafe, which has a “locovore” themed menu and is a central hub for local residents under large banyan trees. (Ask any local in West Hawaii what their favorite restaurant is in the area and this restaurant is usually on the list..especially for their Sunday brunch!)

The entire village measures a total of 15.2 square miles with a 7% comprised of inland water sources. As a census-designated area of Hawaii County, the population of the village as of the latest census (2000) reached the 6,107 mark. Like the rest of Hawaii, Holualoa’s population is a colorful collection of people with American, African American, Asian, Native American, Hispanic, and Pacific Islander blood.
