Hawaiian Sunset Saturday @ Coconut Grove Marketplace

Hawaiian Sunset Saturday Kona When: July 29-October 15 Every Saturday

Time: 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Residents, visitors and families of all ages are encouraged to mark their calendars for the last Saturday of every month and plan to attend the free Hawaiian Sunset Saturdays. This once a month community event celebrates Kona’s spectacular sunsets with live Hawaiian music and hula starting at 5:30 pm on the lawn at Coconut Grove Marketplace.

Everyone’s invited to bring lawn chairs, beach blankets and enjoy beautiful live Hawaiian music under the sunset sky. Lovely hula dance completes the evening. When the sun sets and the music is over, enjoy a stroll on Alii Drive, and check out the many food venues. Hawaiian Sunset Saturday happens on the last Saturday of every month starting July 29.

HOSPICE OF KONA’S ROYAL TEA BENEFIT – FOUR SEASONS HUALALAI RESORT

When: August 19

A full day of fun at Royal Kona Resort, including a Battle of the BBQ with amazing local food vendors.

Time: 11am-2pm; a Marketplace from 11am-4pm; a Pool Party with live music from 2:30-4pm; and The Mai Tai Mix-off from 4:30-7:30pm where bartenders will compete for the title of the world’s best mai tai and a $10,000 first prize, a $5000 second prize, and a $2500 third prize. The world’s largest long distance outrigger canoe race!

46th ANNUAL QUEEN LILI’UOKALANI LONG DISTANCE OUTRIGGER CANOE RACES

When: August 31-September 4

The Queen Lili’uokalani Long Distance Outrigger Canoe Races welcomes more than 2,500 outrigger canoe paddlers to Kona for its signature 18-mile long distance race, the world’s largest long distance outrigger canoe race. Kai ‘Opua Canoe Club, one of Hawai’i’s oldest outrigger canoe clubs, will host crews from all over the world. Other official race events unfold throughout the holiday weekend. Free to the public. HAWAI’I ISLAND FESTIVAL OF BIRDS – KEAUHOU-KONA

Time: 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa, Keauhou

The Festival program will feature guest speakers Jeff Gordon, President of the American Birding Association, and Kenn Kaufman, renowned author, artist and conservationist, along with a trade show for outdoor and birding equipment; a children’s corner; a bird-themed arts and crafts fair; photography and painting workshops; a birding film festival; and time to interact with Hawai’i Island naturalists and bird experts. Guided field trips on land and sea will be included in the program offerings. Cost: $10.
