West Hawai’i Beach Clean Up

WHERE: Old Airport Beach Park and Hapuna Beach
The clean up will take place from Miloli’i to Kawaihae on the west side of the Big Island. Pre-cleaning briefing and sign in at Hapuna Beach South Pavilion to start at 7:30am. Receive t-shirt, cleanup up safety briefing, cleanup supplies. Potluck lunch. Old Airport “last pavilion” signup starts at 8am. Get pre-cleanup briefing, t-shirt, trash bags, gloves. Free lunch, music and prizes to follow. BRING: Personal water bottle, outdoor gear, hat, shoes, lunch or snack. PROVIDED: Jug of spring water, reusable cups and dishes, snacks, potluck lunch items. Hanohano Kona: Heart of the Wa’a Lecture

The public is invited for the next installment of Kona Historical Society’s Hanohano ‘O Kona: Wahi Pana Lecture Series, which gives residents and visitors an unforgettable education experience about our island’s unique history and vibrant culture in the places where it was and is made. Alexis Ching, keynote speaker and a lifelong paddler with a background in anthropology and qualitative research, will present the lecture, “”Heart of the Wa’’a,”” which will be held from at the which sits on the shores of historic Kamakahonu Bay and Ahu‘ena Heiau. This free lecture will delve into the significance of Hawai’i’’s relationship to its natural surroundings and connection to the ocean through Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing. Hawai’i Artist Collaboration Auction and Fundraiser

Since 2011 the Hawaii Artist Collaboration (HAC) has been a gathering place for local and international artists in 14 different media. This year, 40 artists from Hawai’i and around the globe will gather together over a four day period melding their different arts into unique and stunning collaborative works of art. The one-or-a-kind finished pieces are offered in a public auction, held at the West Hawaii Community Health Center on Saturday, March 28, 2020. The ticket price of $30 includes two drink vouchers, and heavy pupu will be offered. The evening’s event starts with an opening ceremony at 4:00 PM with a silent auction. The live auction portion of the evening will commence at 6 PM. Proceeds from the event go towards funding other art projects on the Island of Hawai’i and all the ticket sales are given to a scholarship fund to help teachers in public schools gain access to materials for art projects that would otherwise be limited.
