What’s Happening in October in West Hawaii?

We may not have yellow leaves turning to fiery red this month, but you can feel the change in the morning air and start to see athletes running down Alii Drive and bicycling down Queen K in preparation for IronMan. LUVA Real Estate knows Fall signals change and we have some of our own changes coming up later this month which we will reveal later. In the meantime, here are some of the fun things you can do in October in West Hawaii!

AstroDay Kona

When: Saturday, October 6 from 11 am – 3 pm
Where: Kona Commons Shopping Center
AstroDay returns to bring science fun to West Hawaiʻi residents for a  free, family-oriented, science celebration. Explore dozens of fun and educational activities and demonstrations. Observatories from Maunakea and Haleakala will be represented, as well as other technology, education, and cultural organizations. Highlights include Starlab–a portable planetarium provided by the Canada France Hawaii and Gemini Observatories, solar viewing with experienced astronomers, robotics, educational games and toys, and many hands-on activities. Colorful and informative material will be available as well as displays from diverse organizations.

IronMan World Championship Triathalon Week

What: Ironman Expo
When: Tuesday, October 9 from 5-7pm and Wednesday, October 10 from 9 am to 4 pm.
Check out all the cool athletic gear and get a feeling for the excitement of this international race!

Underpants Run

When: Thursday, October 11th, 2018, 7:30 AM
Registration: Online: Available until Monday, October 8th, 11:59 pm PST.

Where: Start and finish in the back parking lot of the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, where the Ironman Banquets take place.
Why: For some good, clean fun, to raise $$ for local charities
The Course: 1.5 miles/ 2.4 km total. Starting and finishing at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, in the parking lot where the Ironman Banquets take place and then running out onto the pier, south along Ali’i Drive with a turnaround through Uncle Billy’s. Click here to view map >>

40th Anniversary  Ironman World Championship Triathalon

When: Saturday, October 13
Where: Starting point and finish line, Kailua Pier
This ultimate endurance event – a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run – attracts thousands of the world’s best athletes, and thousands of volunteers from the Big Island help make it happen! Hawaii Island Women’s Leadership Forum: “Courage to Dream: Rise to the Challenge”

When: Friday, October 19th, 2018 8:30 am-6:00 pm
Where: Sheraton Kona, Keauhou
The 2018 Hawai’i Island Women’s Leadership Summit will feature a dynamic keynote speaker, panel discussions, multiple engaging and interactive workshop sessions, and a networking Pau Hana. Themes present throughout all components of the Summit include leadership, business, communication, finance, and wellness. Additionally, an array of local vendors will be showcased at the Summit Expo. Tickets are $100 early bird and $110 after Oct. 1. Pig n Swig Benefit

When: Saturday, October 20
Where: Makae’o Pavilion at the Old Airport Beach Park.
Funds raised go towards scholarships, the Food Basket, and DAS (Domestic Abuse Shelter). This fundraising dinner event includes a Pork Roast ‘n’ Gravy Dinner, a Bacon Cook-Off featuring local chefs, entertainment and more. Location: Tickets: $25 pre-sale; $30 at the door. 18th Annual Halloween Journey

When: October 20, 2018 4:00-9:00 pm
Where: Kona Pacific Public Charter School – Kealakekua
The Halloween Journey is a time-honored and well-loved tradition at Kona Pacific Public Charter School. Along with a magical journey through wooded trails, guests will enjoy games, food, crafts, and fun. The event will take place rain or shine. Admission: $10. Howl ‘ween Dog Walk

When: Saturday, October 27, 2018
Where: Central Bark at the Animal Community Center.
Show off your pet costume, enjoy games and contests, and help Hawai’i Island Humane Society raise funds. Earn $50 in pledges and receive a free Dog Walk t-shirt! All are invited to join in costume. Walkers with or without pets are urged to raise pledges to support Hawaii Island Humane Society. There is no mandatory registration fee. All who participate simply collect donations with an online giving page or with the on-line printed form. Event highlights include costume competitions, pet-related vendors and ono food and drink. The Walk begins promptly at 8:30 am.

Ohana Halloween Pa’ina

When: October 27, 2018
Where: Keauhou Shopping Center
Free admission. Haunted House, playground, and vendors from 5-9:30 pm. Keiki Costume Contest; Adult Costume Contest, Family Costume Contest, and live entertainment. There will be trick-or-treating at participating merchants, a keiki fun zone, food trucks, and live entertainment including Hawai’i’s Motown-inspired singing group, A Touch of Gold. What: Holualoa Village Coffee and Art Stroll
When: November 3, 2018 from 9am-3pm
