Happy Summer! Longer days, later sunsets and warmer ocean water are here. We also have quite a few outdoor events this month in Kona and around Hawaii that are fun for the whole family with kids out of school now. From running to live music to a BrewFest in Hilo, lots to enjoy this month!

First Friday Celebration

WHEN: June 7th, 2019
WHERE:- Holualoa Village
Holualoa Village galleries will feature new art and artists, tasty street eats and music all along Mamalahoa Highway through town during the monthly Art-After-Dark event from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. The village block party features art and artists in over a dozen galleries and shops, as well as free live music and a great selection of local food vendors. This community event is free, and for all ages.

King Kamehameha Celebration Parade/Ho’olaulea

WHERE: Kailua Kona on Alii Drive
WHEN: June 8, 2019
Adorned in the flowers and colors of the Hawaiian Islands, regal pa’u riders on horseback will represent each of the eight islands, led by their respective princesses and the pa’u queen. The floral parade will also feature hula halau, equestrian units, marching bands, and more. The parade begins at Walua Road and Alii Drive at 9am, and travels through Kailua Village to Palani Road past the pier, ending at noon. After the parade, enjoy a free Hawaiian music concert and arts & crafts fair at Hulihe’e Palace. There will be food, hula and a silent auction, as well. Afternoon at the Palace Concert/Hula and Village Stroll

WHEN: June 9th, 2019
WHERE: Kailua Village
Free Hawaiian music and hula on the grounds of Hulihe’e Palace on Alii Drive from 4-5pm. Bring your own beach mat or chair. Before and after the Palace performance, stroll thru historic Kailua Village (the Stroll starts at 1pm & goes till 6pm), enjoy over 100 vendor booths, plus oceanside restaurants, local musicians & artists. North Kohala Kamehameha Day Celebration

WHERE: Hawi Town
WHEN: June 11, 2019
Lei Draping at the statue of King Kamehameha in Kapa`au, and a traditional Pa’u Parade, with horses and riders adorned in flowers and colors representing each Hawaiian Island. The parade will travel from downtown Hawi to Kamehameha Park in Kapa’au. There will also be a Ho’olaule’a (crafts fair) at Kamehameha Park, where you can eat local food, see masters create traditional arts and craafts, watch beautiful hula dancers and listen to award-winning Hawaiian musicians. Mini Astrobash

WHEN: June 15, 2019 from 2-4 pm
WHERE: Kailua Kona Library
The Kailua Kona Library presents a free event for space fans of all ages. Experience the dynamic world of astronomy with hands-on science projects, free planetarium shows, and live science presentations, generously sponsored by the NASA Solar System Ambassadors, Gemini Observatory, East Asian Observatory, W. M. Keck Observatory, and the Institute for Astronomy. Stop by the check-in table in the main lobby for a program guide for station locations and schedules for Star Lab planetarium and Aunty Mimi’’s science presentations. Hilo Brewfest

Annual Cultural FestivalL

WHEN: June 29 and 30, 2019
WHERE: Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Park, Honaunau
Celebrate Hawaiian culture at this free, two-day, family-friendly event, from 9am-3pm. Saturday opens with, games, arts, and canoe rides. On Sunday, there will be games, arts, hukilau, and Hawaiian food tasting. Kona Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon & 5k Races

WHEN: June 30, 2019
WHERE: Waikoloa Beach Resort
Featuring all four traditional races – Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon & 5 K. An estimated 2,000 runners of all ages and abilities will be participating for prizes, health and enjoyment, and raising money for charities. The race will start and finish at the Waikoloa Bowl at Queens’ Marketplace. The Kona Marathon course has one gentle climb not exceeding 175 feet above sea level. 4th of July Parade and Fireworks

WHERE: Kailua Kona Village starting at the Kekua’okalani Gym, proceed along Ali’i Drive for the parade and fireworks start at 8 pm.
