Agent Spotlight: Marty Kimball

Marty has been in real estate for 19 years, attaining his license in 2001 and his broker’s license in 2004. He joined LUVA Real Estate five years ago after spending seven years working as the Broker-in-Charge for a large brokerage on island. He has been a Big Island resident for 40 years and lived in the state of Hawaii for almost 50 years. Marty is an active member in the West Hawaii Realtor community and has served as a Director on the Association board.

Marty’s career began not in real estate but in the technology industry where he worked for 25 years as a software engineer. During his career in the tech industry he mostly worked as an independent contractor and would often teach software and computer courses at the University of Hawaii. Also, he co-founded a technology firm called Advanced Computers Solutions, LLC. Although Marty did not always work in real estate, it is an industry that runs through his blood. His father was a real estate broker and developer in St. Croix and as a kid Marty would often go with him to show property. Even as a young kid, Marty always enjoyed meeting his dad’s clients’ so it comes as no surprise that his favorite part about being a Realtor is that he gets to meet a lot of people. Often his clients become good friends.

Real estate is a very special industry and there are many times that unique and funny situations arise. One time, when Marty was working at a brokerage where there was another agent with the same name, came into Marty’s office and handed him a stack of papers. The other Marty told him that he had been working with some clients for about a week and had finally realized they were looking for him and not the other Marty! Then he said, “they will be here in about an hour, and you have three showings scheduled.” Nothing like a little pressure, Marty said!

While not working with his clients, Marty and his wife enjoy working in the yard at their home in Kona. They grow white pineapples, kabocha squash, okra, mango, and all sorts of citrus. They also enjoy hours of entertainment everyday by playing with their dog, Kiko, and cat, Magoo.
