Neighborhood Spotlight: Lanikai

This entry was posted in Neighborhood Video Digest on .

Residents of Lanikai have the luxury of living on one of the most beautiful beaches on O’ahu. The powder-like sand and crystal-clear waters are not like any other on the island.  Kaʻōhao, now known as Lanikai, is located on the lush Windward side of Oʻahu. Lanikai, Hawaiian for “the heavenly sea” has unobstructed views of the Mokulua Islands. More commonly called, “the mokes,” the twin islands are a Seabird Sanctuary. The islets are home to the Wedge-tailed shearwater (ʻUaʻu Kani) for nesting. You may also find a Hawaiian monk seal sunning itself on the shores of the mokes but please remember to keep your distance. The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species.

Lanikai is a unique residential neighborhood with the main road being a single one-way loop around the community. The Lanikai Loop is a popular walking and running route for anyone who enjoys a stunning ocean view while exercising. For a bird’s eye view of Lanikai, the Kaʻiwa Ridge Trail cannot be beaten. Also known as the Pillbox Hike, this almost 2 miles out and back hike is popular among tourists and locals alike.

Lanikai is home to the Mid-Pacific Country Club where members can enjoy world-class golfing, dining, and entertainment. Other dining options include Buzz’s Original Steakhouse located within walking distance of the Lanikai Community. Buzz’s boasts beautiful ocean views, live music most days, and a great menu with something for everyone.
