In this special Q&A, Sara shares her priorities, insights, and hopes for the industry as she begins her leadership term.
Q: What are your top priorities as you begin your term as President?
A: Strengthening professionalism and reinforcing the value of being a REALTOR® are at the top of my list. Our Code of Ethics and the support of our association set us apart in this industry. My priority is to ensure our members recognize that value — that we are part of a trusted community committed to higher standards, collaboration, and service. When we show up united and informed, we protect our profession and deliver a better experience for the clients and communities who rely on us.
Q: How do you plan to address housing affordability challenges across Hawai‘i?
A: By always being available for policymakers, industry partners, and community members to provide market statistics and data so they can properly address needs. It’s important that we support diversified housing options and streamline systems that increase access to homeownership while still protecting the character of our local communities.
Q: What initiatives are you introducing to help REALTORS® adapt to changing market conditions?
A: We are continuously expanding education and technology training, broker and agent support programs, and opportunities for networking and community engagement. These initiatives help REALTORS® remain resilient, informed, and proactive — no matter how the market shifts.
Q: How do you see the real estate industry contributing to the protection of Hawai‘i’s culture and environment?
A: By prioritizing responsible land use, educating clients about local stewardship and cultural respect, and ensuring that housing policy aligns with long-term community well-being. As REALTORS®, we have a responsibility to honor Hawai‘i’s culture and protect the natural beauty that makes our home so unique.
Q: What message would you like to share with Hawai‘i’s REALTORS® as you begin your leadership role?
A: The people of Hawai‘i deserve the highest level of service from local professionals who deeply understand this place and its values. As REALTORS®, we must uphold integrity, professionalism, and aloha in every interaction. Together, we can elevate our industry, strengthen our communities, and ensure that the people we serve feel truly supported in one of the most important decisions of their lives — owning a home.
