Local Business Spotlight: Heyday

This entry was posted in Local Business Spotlight on .

What’s not to love about a restaurant that has swing seating and a bamboo bar? In fact, Heyday, a newer eatery located at the White Sands Hotel in Waikiki is the only place on Oahu with swing seating – and it fits in perfectly with the restaurant’s whimsy, retro, and fun vibe. HeyDay, the laid-back love child of Fete, offers new continental cuisine in a fun farm to table fashion. The chefs source locally as often as they can Enjoy dining outside near the hotel pool surrounded by lush tropical landscaping.

Chef Maii was born and raised in Honolulu and is well known in the culinary world. She combines her love for local food and the Hawaiian culture with her experience and understanding of continental cuisine for a unique and inspiring menu. Before opening her own restaurants, she worked under top chefs in Honolulu and then in New York City.  She also spent time working for Gourmet magazine and has been a cookbook judge for the James Beard Foundation since 2004. Prior to HeyDay, Chef Mai’I and her husband opened Fete, a seasonal New American restaurant “with local roots and a global outlook” that continues to be a favorite amongst many.

They call HeyDay the Waikiki love child of Fete – and between the two of them it is hard to pick a favorite – they each have their own unique flair while still sticking true to the inspiring and delicious cuisine that Chef Maii is known for. At Heyday, don’t miss the Heyday Vegan Lumpia with haricots verts, carrots, shiitake, watercress, and tofu or the foie gyoza with banana jam and a soy-balsamic reduction. One of the highlights of their menu is their bar menu which includes artisanal and creative cocktails like Ala Wai Seahorse, Origami Swam and the Down with O.P.P. (Orange, passionfruit and pineapple).
